Straw hats

Over a month ago my dear friend departed. Menling challenged, encouraged and supported me a now she is gone.

I am not ok.

It’s been a world wind of emotions – starting with denial. I didn’t want to believe a premature death was the outcome.

We met in our early twenties. While in college, I worked part-time as a bank teller and met a young mother named Menling but she preferred to be called Sarahi.

We immediately clicked. I longed for extended family and a social life. Meanwhile, she needed a safe outlet and someone to motivate her academically. I was inspired by her hard work ethic and ability to manage life raising a daughter.

We reunited after a few years of losing touch. She leaves behind three dynamic children, a mother and brothers.

Treasure dear friends and pursue your dreams. Menling recently finished college and was working toward a long-awaited nursing career. A career that never fully developed.

Emotions are still fresh but I will keep her legacy alive.

I am grateful for the moments shared.
